"Autumns Exploration ..."
New Brunswick is a sea of colours in the fall. The brilliance of orange-reds and auburn, it can be breathtaking. Though add a waterfall - and that becomes something more.
This Turkey Day, my family and I searched across the backcountry for waterfalls. Slow I pulled two youngsters out of the car near Henderson falls. Walking down the stairs was a moment of pure excitement as the mist hit my face and the sound of falling water reached my ears.
It was a sea of brilliance in those fall colours.
At the height of the COVID Pandemic - this was a needed relief of mental clarity and creativity. I stomped through the water to find the appropriate angle, composition and settings. Some hundred or so clicks of experimentation later, I got to sit with my kiddos and show them how shutter speed affects the picture. Those who don't know - Longer the shutter is open, the smoother the water, except the brighter the image, so expensive glass plates are used to reduce the light. Like Oakleys for the cannon.
The image is a combination of 3 images in focus closer to further from the camera. These are overlaid, and the out-of-focus pieces are cut away by hand. The Colour is then processed and painted by hand, shaping the light so your eye is drawn where I want you to see. I’m in the process of making work-in-progress videos of my work so you can see it; start to finish.
My recommendation for this piece is a framed canvas. The texture of the canvas would go well with the subject matter - while the frame would provide a clean break in the aesthetic.
Be well - peace and love - always.
