Professional Photographers of Canada (PPOC) Accreditation
Hello Everyone,
This is a big year for me and my photography. A lot of my news around photography stems from accreditations, and competitions within the Professional Photographers of Canada (PPOC). There is still news pending abroad as I’ve entered several competitions in Europe this year.
In honest it has been a goal, to set my sights on to constantly drive to be more creative, more passionate, and more devoted to my craft - and to the beauty of the world around us. For any new member of PPOC you are considered an ‘aspiring’ member. Which means you are striving for your first accreditation.
Well, what the heck is accreditation?
“Accreditation is the degree of elevation above the general membership level and is achieved by submitting samples of the applicant’s photography in a chosen category. Accreditation demonstrates that the photographer has proven professional ability to the Board of Examiners of the Professional Photographers of Canada. In assessing Accreditation submissions, the judges will consider the following criteria: Vision, Impact, Composition, and Technical merit.
In all honesty - it is peer review. Where 5 very accomplished photographers review ten of your images, that have to be taken at 10 different times, with 10 different poses, or subject matters. Along with special implications. For example my Night Accreditation had to show a good blend between natural and man made lighting.
Each image is judged individually - they have to be a ‘cut above’ .Then these judges - make their decision if they would recommend the work for professional consumption based on the overall judging. If certain images, lack one of the above criteria - they outline the flaws, and allow you the maker to try again.
Accreditations happen 4 times a year within PPOC.
This year I was happy to add another to my wall. In Pictorial Scenic (I call that landscape)
You can see my images from both my Night and Pictorial Scenic Accreditation’s
I’m very grateful for the push and drive that these give me. Every time I get ready to attempt a new accreditation is gives me a reason to deep dive into new ways of creating. It is a motivation, and a reason to reflect on, the why and how I create what I create.
I leave you with my latest image.
Peace and love
